Synopsis

Pesca alla Valsesiana is a traditional fishing method originating on the small mountain streams of northern Italy. This documentary showcases the craftsmanship involved in creating a homemade 15-foot cane rod and the meticulous braiding of lines from the tail of a stallion. Simple flies are tied by hand without the aid of a vise, reflecting the dedication of this fishing style. Arturo Pugno, the sport’s elder statesman, leads a small group of devotees who continue to practice this technique, which has been in use since at least the 16th century.
