Synopsis
In Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, men and women from Niger navigate daily life as they seek work and build new lives. "I, a Negro," directed by Jean Rouch, captures an ordinary week in their experiences. The film, which won the Prix Louis Delluc in 1958, marks Rouch's departure from traditional ethnography. He employs collaborative and improvisational techniques, coining the terms "shared ethnography" and "ethnofiction" to depict the realities of migration and cultural exchange.
