Hong Kong: A family's journey to escape to the UK

Synopsis

A family from Hong Kong, including Felix, Donna, and their mother, faces an uncertain future as they prepare to leave their home after spending their whole lives there. The political landscape in Hong Kong drastically changes following the summer 2019 protests, where hundreds of thousands demand greater democracy. In response to the unrest and the imposition of strict national security laws by Beijing, the UK offers a lifeline to British National Overseas passport holders, allowing them to apply for visas to live and work in the UK. Felix, a writer for the independent newspaper Apple Daily, witnesses the protests firsthand and decides to join his family in seeking refuge. As they pack their belongings and say goodbye to their city, they reflect on the life they are leaving behind, knowing they are swapping a tropical megacity for a new beginning in the UK.
