Highway Code changes come into force

Notably, the 'Dutch reach' method encourages drivers to use their left arm to open the driver's side door, promoting a check for cyclists or pedestrians before opening. The new rules also state that traffic must give way to pedestrians at junctions and that cyclists should ride in the center of lanes on quieter roads to increase visibility. These changes are not obligatory, but adherence is encouraged to improve safety on the roads.
