A Scotrail Turbostar class 170 takes passengers through stretches of double and single track, featuring semaphore block signaling. The route includes steep climbs at Druimuachdar and Slochd, the latter being the summit of the Inverness cut-off line, completed in 1898 after 14 years of construction.
