Synopsis
Mike Carroll traveled to Romania shortly after the fall of Nicolae Ceaușescu's regime in 1989. He encountered the pediatric AIDS epidemic and the suffering of thousands of children. His photographs and stories appeared in the Boston Globe and New York Times. Carroll founded Romanian Children's Relief to provide aid over the next twenty years. Produced and directed by Don Hahn, Hand Held features footage from Boston to Bucharest and examines Carroll's efforts to bring assistance to Romanian orphans.
