Synopsis
Thomas Ostermeier, artistic director of the Schaubühne in Berlin, traveled to Ramallah in September 2012 to stage Hamlet at the Al-Kasaba Theatre. His decision stemmed from close ties with Palestinian theatre professionals, particularly those at the Freedom Theatre in Jenin. Directed by Nicolas Klotz, the film intertwines the tragedy of Shakespeare's Danish prince with the struggles of young Palestinians. It also addresses the murder of Juliano Mer Khamis, the former director of the Freedom Theatre, who was killed in April 2011.
