Synopsis
Around the Brandenburg Gate in late 1989, border guards faced an unprecedented situation as East Germans surged toward the West. Director Matthias-Joachim Blochwitz filmed their reactions during this historic moment. The 40-minute film, Grenzdurchbruch 89, features interviews with members of the border troops, who recount their experiences and express their feelings about the fall of the Berlin Wall. The film portrays deceased border soldiers as heroes, while omitting details about the circumstances of their deaths. It premiered in cinemas in 2009.
