Synopsis

At the Belfast Gasworks, former workers and locals share their memories of a facility that opened in 1822 on land owned by the Marquis of Donegall. For over 150 years, the gasworks provided heat and light to the city, with profits contributing to the construction of Belfast City Hall. By the end of World War II, around 120,000 residents relied on its energy. However, by the 1960s, advancements in technology diminished its significance, leaving only the old funnel and clocktower as reminders of its past.
