Martin Ugalde's tape recorder captures the voice of Lezo Urreiztieta, a 20th-century figure who claimed to be a 16th-century pirate. Born in 1907, Urreiztieta risked his life to save hundreds and negotiated with foreign governments for a free Basque Country. He smuggled 17 boats of weapons into Bilbao during the Spanish Civil War and nearly assassinated Francisco Franco. Unpublished conversations between Ugalde and Urreiztieta from 1975 to 1978 reveal the story of a significant character in Basque history.
