Lin Xin, the son of miners, filmed "Gas" five years after two deadly explosions at the Chenjiashan Coal Mine in Shaanxi Province. The first explosion on April 6, 2001, killed 38 people, while a second on November 28, 2004, resulted in 166 deaths. Through interviews with over 20 miners and victims' families, the film presents their experiences and the social issues surrounding mining disasters. "Gas" concludes Lin Xin's "Trilogy of Survival.
