From Us to Me focuses on the lives of workers in East Germany during the late 1980s. Filmed by Amber Films in October 1987, it features individuals from the state-owned fishing concern in Warnemünde and crane operators at the Warnow dockyards. The film captures a moment in time just before the dissolution of East Germany in 1989, preserving the experiences of these workers as they navigate their daily lives.
The filmmakers returned to Rostock in 2014 to reconnect with the individuals they filmed. They reviewed excerpts from the original footage, allowing the subjects to reflect on the significant changes in their lives since the fall of East Germany. This reunion provides insight into the personal impacts of historical events and the evolution of individual identities over time.
