Synopsis

Kwakwaka’wakw Chief Mungo Martin and Jewish ethno-musicologist Ida Halpern worked together in the mid-20th century to preserve First Nations songs. Their efforts took place nearly 75 years ago in Canada. They recorded hundreds of these songs, safeguarding cultural knowledge at a time when many Indigenous traditions faced severe threats. Both experienced the impacts of cultural genocide, which deepened their commitment to this preservation work. The documentary spans 70 minutes, detailing their significant contributions.
