Lota Macedo Soares marries American poet Elizabeth Bishop in Rio de Janeiro during the 1950s. Their relationship unfolds against the backdrop of urban change. Lota's friend, Carlos Lacerda, becomes governor of Guanabara and invites her to convert a 7-kilometer landfill into Flamengo Park. This project leads to the creation of the second largest urban park in the world.
