In May 1968, Ewa Rudling found herself in Paris amid the student revolt. Armed with a borrowed camera, she captured images of the protests at Sorbonne University, which were later published in The Observer. Rudling faced physical and psychological abuse during her childhood, often caring for her younger sister without support from her mother. At 19, she moved to Rome, where her modeling career began. Eventually, she relocated to New York, where she met Claude Duthuit, grandson of artist Henri Matisse.
