The sifakas, a type of lemur, arise in the evolutionary isolation of Madagascar. There are no lemurs found anywhere else in the world, highlighting the unique biodiversity of this African island. Over 150,000 plant and animal species also belong exclusively to Madagascar, showcasing its distinct ecological environment. The lemurs emerged after Madagascar separated from the African continent, allowing them to develop without the evolutionary pressure of competition from continental species. This isolation has led to a rich variety of species that are not found elsewhere.
