Synopsis
Mikhail Devyataev, a fighter pilot and Hero of the Soviet Union, escaped from the Usedom Island concentration camp on February 8, 1945. He commandeered a Heinkel 111 bomber with nine fellow Soviet prisoners. Usedom Island housed the German missile center in Peenemünde, where the V-2 ballistic rocket was developed. Despite being pursued by German fighters, Devyataev managed to fly the aircraft to safety. His story, marked by survival through four death camps, is described as extraordinary by historians.
