Synopsis

A Tatar woman in Moscow recalls her mother's dream of having a garden. The short documentary, "Eclipse in the Garden," weaves together family genealogy and the effects of Russification on non-Russian communities in the USSR. Through super 8 home movies, it reflects on the loss of language and culture, as the mother could not fully embrace her Tatar heritage outside the family home. Directed by Yuula Benivolski, the film runs for six minutes.
