Synopsis

Dragonfly nymphs are ferocious predators, catching anything that moves with their projectile lower jaw, which they extend at supersonic speed. They dominate ponds as the terror of aquatic life. Adult dragonflies, active hunters, catch various insects on the wing, including their own species. While flying, adult dragonflies have a lifespan ranging from 8 to 60 days. Some species spend the first six years of their lives underwater as nymphs.
