Synopsis
Major Izmailov worked in the military registration office in Zhukovsky at the start of the Chechen war. After burying the first conscript killed during the assault on Grozny, he refused to send young men to their deaths. Instead, he traveled to Chechnya to rescue prisoners. Izmailov freed at least 174 people. The film includes rare footage from private archives of mothers searching for their sons and features accounts from negotiating officers involved in prisoner exchanges during the conflict.
