Women in Israel can become "chained" when a man refuses to grant a religious divorce, leaving them trapped without civil options.
Synopsis
Batya, a religious lawyer in Israel, assists women trapped in marriages from which they cannot escape. Under Jewish law, a divorce requires a husband to give a "gett," or religious divorce document, to his wife. Without civil marriage or divorce in Israel, women face challenges in obtaining this document. The film follows several women who are "chained" in their marriages and Batya's efforts to challenge the rabbinical courts that enforce these laws. Released in 2019, the documentary runs for 59 minutes.
