Synopsis

After traveling the Oregon Trail, Protestant missionaries Marcus and Narcissa Whitman settle near the Columbia River. They aim to spread their Christian faith and introduce their way of life to the local Cayuse people. However, they face challenges in adapting to their new environment. A devastating outbreak of measles exacerbates tensions between the Whitmans and the Cayuse, as well as between Marcus and Narcissa themselves.
