Synopsis

At 2000 feet down, the Johnson-Sea-Link submarine finds a remarkable cold seep on the barren sea floor. This cold seep features a pond of water with ripples, challenging existing scientific understanding. Cold seeps are areas where hydrogen sulfide, methane, and other hydrocarbon-rich fluids seep from the ocean floor, often forming brine pools. Contrary to what the name suggests, the temperature of the seepage is not lower than the surrounding seawater, but rather slightly warmer. This discovery raises questions about the dynamics of underwater ecosystems and the geological processes at play in these extreme environments.
