Synopsis
Lviv served as the backdrop for "De Fac-To," filmed between 2016 and 2017. Artists Ekaterina Shapiro-Obermair and historian Alexandra Wachter collaborated on this work. They document the annual rituals surrounding World War II in Ukraine. Different political, social, and ethnic groups participate in these events. The film addresses the appropriation of history in a post-truth society. It captures the performative aspects of these rituals, which sometimes evoke unintended humor amid their tragic past.
