Synopsis

The Spitzer Science Center presents the gas-giant planet upsilon Andromedae b, which orbits closely around its star, resulting in one side that is constantly exposed to extreme heat. Classified as a hot Jupiter, this planet features scorching temperatures and a large, gaseous structure. Contrary to expectations, the hottest region of upsilon Andromedae b does not align directly beneath the sun-facing side. Previous observations indicate that the hot spots on these giant planets may be displaced from this expected position, prompting further investigation into their atmospheric dynamics and thermal properties.
