Synopsis
Marseille serves as the backdrop for "Ciao Bella Ciao," a 2002 documentary by Laurence Rebouillon. The film responds to the Front National's electoral success in the first round of the French presidential elections. Shot in Super 8 and kinescoped in 35mm, it combines footage from Rebouillon's childhood with earlier film tests. A voice-over scrolls text reflecting on a homosexual love breakup while critiquing the persistent racism among the city's petty bourgeoisie.
