Harry Markopolos spent a decade trying to alert the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission about Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme. His efforts began in the late 1990s and continued until Madoff's arrest in December 2008. Markopolos and his associates gathered extensive evidence, estimating that Madoff had defrauded investors of $18 billion, or $65 billion including fictitious returns. Despite multiple meetings and detailed reports, the SEC largely ignored their findings. The film, directed by Jeff Prosserman, is based on Markopolos's book and premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam in November 2010.
