Synopsis

Cab Calloway performed at Harlem’s Cotton Club during the jazz and swing eras of the 1930s and 1940s. As a singer, dancer, and bandleader, he became known for his signature song “Minnie the Moocher,” featuring the memorable refrain “Hi de hi de hi de ho.” The documentary covers his influential career, including his portrayal of Sportin’ Life in the 1952 production of Porgy and Bess and his role in The Blues Brothers in 1980. Calloway's impact extended to artists like Michael and Janet Jackson and many contemporary hip-hop performers.
