Boston bomb attack

Synopsis

On a bright Tuesday morning, the scene on Boon Street in central Boston resembles the aftermath of a major city's Marathon, with discarded cups and heat sheets for runners scattered around. However, the area at Black and Darkmouth streets reveals the grim reality of the previous day's events. On Monday afternoon, two bombs detonated near the end of the Boston Marathon, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuring 176 others, 17 of them seriously. The Boston Police Department describes the site as the most complex crime scene in its history. Despite the ongoing investigation, which includes a state police Incident Command Post and National Guard presence, there is currently no indication of who is responsible for this attack, the most significant on U.S. soil since September 11, 2001. City officials, including Mayor Tom Marino, express determination that Boston will recover and return to normalcy.
