Synopsis
Charlotte Cushman's Cardinal Wolsey costume, a rare artifact from the 19th century, is one of many items featured in Beyond Stonewall. This documentary uses artifacts from the Smithsonian collections to tell the history of the LGBTQ+ community. It includes a first edition of Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass and love letters from World War II soldiers. Commentary comes from LGBTQ+ figures such as Mark Segal, a Stonewall eyewitness, and Gene Robinson, the first openly gay bishop in the Episcopal Church.
