In a Salt Lake City parking lot in 1979, filmmaker Trent Harris encounters Richard LaVon Griffiths, known as "Groovin' Gary." Griffiths performs celebrity impressions and invites Harris to Beaver, Utah, to film a local talent show. The first segment, titled The Beaver Kid, features Griffiths in drag as "Olivia Newton-Dawn." In 1981, Sean Penn portrays a character inspired by Griffiths in The Beaver Kid 2. The trilogy concludes with The Orkly Kid, where Crispin Glover takes on a similar role, adding new characters and plot twists.
