Aswang

Synopsis

In Metro Manila, Jun Santiago, a photojournalist and lay brother, documents the aftermath of killings linked to President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs. He supports families of victims while covering protests against the campaign. The film also follows Jomari, a young man grieving the murder of Kian de los Santos, whom he regarded as a brother. Aswang captures the violence and human toll of state-sanctioned killings during Duterte's first two years in office. It premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in November 2019.
