Apple Promises To Stop Mining Minerals To Make iPhones - It Just Isn't Sure How (HBO)
Synopsis
Apple announced plans to use recycled materials for products while nearing renewable energy goals.
Synopsis
Four years ago, Apple announced that it aimed to power all its facilities with renewable energy, and it is now 96% toward that goal. The company is setting a new objective to create all its products from recycled or renewable resources. Lisa Jackson, Apple’s VP of Environmental, Policy, and Social Initiatives, previously served as EPA Administrator under President Obama. At the Apple Environmental Testing Lab, chemists and toxicologists employ innovative methods to assess the safety and environmental impact of products. They use a laser similar to that of the Mars rover to vaporize elements for testing. Apple is focused on closing the loop by using more recycled materials and reducing mining from the Earth. However, the plan to fully achieve 100% renewable resources and recycled materials remains a work in progress, raising questions about the timeline and feasibility of this ambitious goal.
