Synopsis

Qianmen, a historic neighborhood in Beijing, faces significant transformation as the city prepares for the 2008 Olympic Games. Once home to 80,000 residents, the area, which has existed for over six centuries, is targeted for “rehabilitation.” Over 18 months, the film captures the daily lives of those affected by the impending changes. It documents the gradual loss of a community and the memories tied to a vanishing reality, reflecting the broader narrative of contemporary China.
