The sunburst diving beetle, found in the warm ponds and streams of the American Southwest, is a petite creature, measuring only an inch long. Its legs move in sync, allowing it to swim gracefully. The beetle's striking appearance, with pretty yellow specks, serves as a warning to predators about its awful taste. These beetles trap air bubbles between their abdomen and wings, allowing them to breathe underwater.
