Synopsis
An-My Lê captures the stark desert near Joshua Tree National Park, where military training exercises take place. Her work, “29 Palms,” combines a photographic series and an 8-minute film created between 2003 and 2004. The silent, black-and-white, two-channel 4k video projection reflects on the preparation for conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Lê aims to present a more complex understanding of war through the juxtaposition of serene landscapes and the realities of military readiness.
