“Hastings To London Charing Cross”
Synopsis
A second layer of bricks was added to the Hastings line tunnels to reduce the risk of collapse after they were originally built with a single row.
Synopsis
Bopeep Junction marks the starting point of the Hastings line in East Sussex, where the '4-CEP' EMU train, recognizable by its 'Jaffa cake' color scheme, travels to Tunbridge Wells. The line features tunnels originally built with a single row of bricks, posing a collapse risk. To mitigate this, a second layer was added, which reduced the tunnels' width. The electrification challenges of the 1980s led to the design of narrow-bodied trains to fit the modified structures.
