Synopsis

Ye Haiyan, known as Hooligan Sparrow, protests in Hainan Province, China, against the sexual abuse of six elementary school girls by their principal. Filmmaker Nanfu Wang documents Sparrow and her fellow activists as they confront government surveillance and threats of imprisonment. They use social media to advocate for girls' and women's rights.
