Young Pines presents Japan through three trips taken between May 2009 and November 2010. The filmmaker visits cities such as Yokohama, Tokyo, and Kanazawa, observing the connection between the Japanese people and nature. The film captures how culture and environment blend in these urban settings.
In Spring 2010, the filmmaker presents the beauty of Kamakura, Kyoto, and Nara, and later travels to Matsushima, Tono, Miyako in Atsumi, Yamadera, and Nikko in November. Each location offers a distinct perspective on nature's role in shaping Japanese culture. The film was edited after the Tsunami and Fukushima disaster, adding a reflective layer to the narrative.
