You and I
You and I is a documentary directed by Fanny Chotimah, focusing on the lives of Kaminah and Kusdalini, two women who were political prisoners during the Indonesian mass killings of 1965–66. The film is based on the photo book Pemenang Kehidupan by Adrian Mulya and Lilik HS, which features stories of women political prisoners. After their release, Kaminah and Kusdalini faced ostracism due to the stigma associated with communism, leading them to live together in a society that rejected them. The film premiered at the 12th DMZ International Documentary Film Festival on September 18, 2020, and won the Best Documentary Feature at the 2020 Indonesian Film Festival. It later had its European premiere at the 2021 CPH:DOX, where it received the Next:Wave Award. The documentary is notable for its intimate portrayal of the personal experiences of the women involved, set against the backdrop of a significant historical event.
