Upon the Shadow
Upon the Shadow is a documentary directed by Nada Mezni Hafaiedh that addresses discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in Tunisia. The film features Amina Sboui, a human rights activist who provides shelter to friends rejected by their families due to their sexual orientation and identity. Set in the village of Sidi Bou Said, the film presents the struggles faced by the LGBTQI+ community in Tunisia. The documentary premiered at the 2017 Thessaloniki Documentary Festival and won the Bronze Tanit at the Carthage Film Festival in the same year for the category of Documentary feature films. With a runtime of 80 minutes, the film is produced in Tunisia and is presented in Arabic.
