Typeface is an independent documentary directed by Justine Nagan, focusing on the Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. The film captures the intersection of modern design and traditional wood type printing, showcasing interactions between international artists and retired craftsmen. Through their collaboration, the film presents a unique perspective on visual culture and technology in graphic design.
Released in 2009 after successful previews at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Typeface has toured globally, screening at various theaters, museums, and film festivals. The film won 'Best Documentary' at the Flyway Film Festival in October 2009 and was nominated for a Regional Emmy in 2010. It features a soundtrack by musician Josh Ritter and includes a limited-edition DVD release with a letter-pressed poster by Bill Moran.
