Trainer! is a documentary directed by Aljoscha Pause that follows three young German professional soccer coaches, Frank Schmidt, André Schubert, and Stephan Schmidt, throughout an entire playing season. The documentary was filmed over a year, with six months dedicated to research, and it captures the dynamics of soccer coaching in Germany.
The film premiered in theaters on June 11, 2013, and later aired on WDR on June 3, 2013. It has a runtime of 138 minutes and was released on DVD and Blu-ray on June 28, 2013. Trainer! has been recognized for its quality, receiving a nomination for the Adolf Grimme Prize in 2014 and being named the best Soccer Title on Netflix by Paste Magazine in 2017.
