The Seasons (Portuguese: As Estações) is a docufiction film directed by Maureen Fazendeiro, marking her feature debut. The film focuses on the Alentejo region of Portugal, intertwining both historical narratives and local folklore through the experiences of two German archaeologists. It incorporates testimonies from rural inhabitants, archival field notes, and artistic interpretations, creating a layered narrative that reflects the region's past and present.
The film had its world premiere at the 78th Locarno Film Festival on 11 August 2025, competing for the Golden Leopard. It is an international co-production that also screened at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and the São Paulo International Film Festival, showcasing its broad appeal and the significance of its subject matter.
