The Dawn Wall is a documentary about Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson's attempt to create the first big wall free climbing route on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. This route, named The Dawn Wall, is located on the southeast face known as The Wall of Early Morning Light. Prior to their ascent, this face had only been climbed using aid techniques, first accomplished by Warren Harding in 1970.
Directed by Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer, the film captures the climbers' historic achievement and the techniques they employed to conquer a route that had never been free climbed before. It premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam on November 18, 2017, and received critical acclaim, reflected in its perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes and a high rating on Metacritic.
