The film follows Andy Clutterbuck, a neuroatypical extroverted Australian, as he navigates his career in Finland. He charms the introverted elite of Finland, known as the 'Happiest Country in the World,' and secures a teaching position at Aalto University in Helsinki. Andy becomes a brand ambassador for Finnish educational projects, working in various challenging environments including Africa, refugee camps in the Middle East, and the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert.
However, Andy's success takes a dark turn when he is attacked in the Netherlands, resulting in a head injury that leads to PTSD. The film details his struggles with the Finnish healthcare system, where he experiences numerous failures and ultimately falls into a 'black hole' of mental health issues. Andy receives a record number of different F-code diagnoses, culminating in his admission to a closed ward, highlighting the complexities of mental health care in a welfare state.
