The 4th Act
The 4th Act is a documentary about the Ballymun Regeneration in Dublin, told through the experiences of local residents. Directed by Turlough Kelly, who has personal ties to the area, the film uses archival footage collected by the Ballymun Media Co-op to provide context and depth to the narrative. It culminates with the story of the last resident of the Ballymun Flats who chose not to leave, emphasizing the personal impact of urban redevelopment. The film was initially intended to be a series of short films focused on the Joseph Plunkett Tower, the last of the Ballymun Flats to be demolished. However, the production team decided that a full documentary was necessary to adequately cover the topic. The project took three years to complete and was supported by various funding bodies, including the Irish Film Board and Dublin City Council.
