Surfwise is a documentary about the Doc Paskowitz family, directed by Doug Pray. The film follows the life of Dr. Dorian 'Doc' Paskowitz, who, after attending Stanford University Medical School, became an M.D. and adopted a holistic health philosophy. He raised his family of eight boys and one girl in a camper with his wife Juliette, emphasizing surfing and a unique lifestyle over conventional norms. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2007, and later in the U.S. on May 9, 2008. It received critical acclaim, appearing on several top ten lists and holding a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is noted for its original soundtrack by John Dragonetti of The Submarines and is recognized by Men’s Journal as one of the best surf films of all time, second only to The Endless Summer.
