Streetwise is a documentary film directed by Martin Bell that chronicles the lives of nine homeless teenagers in Seattle, Washington. The film focuses particularly on 14-year-old Erin Blackwell, known as Tiny, who engages in prostitution and often stays with her alcoholic mother. Other featured individuals include Rat, a dumpster diver, and Dewayne, a hustler. The film provides a raw look at their daily struggles and the environment they navigate. The production was inspired by a Life magazine article titled 'Streets of the Lost' and was funded by singer Willie Nelson. Principal photography took place from Labor Day to Halloween in 1983, concluding in August 1984. Streetwise was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and has received critical acclaim, including a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
