Salt is an Australian documentary short film directed by Michael Angus and features photographer Murray Fredericks. The film focuses on Fredericks's annual solo trips to the salt flats of Lake Eyre in South Australia, where he spends five weeks each year camping in the lake's unique landscape. During these trips, he contemplates the environment and captures photographs for his series also titled Salt. The film combines time-lapse photography, still images, and footage from Fredericks's video diary recorded throughout his stay.
The documentary premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival in 2009 and has received recognition at various film festivals, winning jury prizes and earning nominations for two awards at the 51st Australian Film Institute Awards. It won the Best Cinematography award at the 2010 Byron Bay International Film Festival and was broadcast in the United States on PBS's independent film series P.O.V. in 2010.
